ROCKONZ Rock 'n' Retro Festival Current Events: May 9 sees the start of the Annual ROCKONZ Rock 'n' Retro Festival which celebrates New Zealand's Kiwi Rock 'n' Pop Culture of the 60's and 70's. Click onto "The Story So Far" webpage which gives an overview of the Festival since its inception. ROCKONZ Car Events: Classic, Hot Rod and Retro Car Owners are invited to enter their cars into three Car events. Entry fee $5 which gives a ticket into the prize draw compliments of George Henry Engineering Ltd: Drawn Sunday 16 May at ROCKONZ Meltdown Cashmere Club 4.30pm. Car Event One: May 9 Sunday: ROCKONZ Cathedral Square Cruise/Display. Assemble at the Cashmere Club 11.30am. Depart and cruise to Cathedral Square 12.30pm. Go on display from 1.00pm – 3.00pm Solid Gold Music and Sausage Sizzle. Return to Cashmere Club from 3.10 to park on display in the Car Park and participate in a relaxed afternoon and early evening dance party. Car Event Two: May 15 Saturday: ROCKONZ Victoria Square Display. Cars assemble at the Cashmere Club, Hunter Tce at 11.30am and depart at 12.30pm to travel to Victoria Square and set up for a two hour ROCKONZ Rock and Retro Car display 1.00pm - 3.00pm. Solid Gold music, Sausage Sizzle and Dancing if Fine. Cars leave at 3.10pm Car Event Three: May 16 Sunday: ROCKONZ Melt down Cruise and Display: Assemble Cashmere Car park Hunter Tce at 12 noon. Depart at 1.00pm on an hour long cruise. Return to the Cashmere Club, park up and take part in the relaxed Festival closing afternoon and early evening dance party. Friday 14 May 7.30pm Join with New Zealand's legendary band and performers of the 60's/70s as they receive their ROCKONZ Hall of Fame Award presented by the Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker. DRAGON featuring original members Todd Hunter, Robert Taylor and Kerry Jacobson will be joined by new members Mark Williams, Pete Drummond and Bruce Reid. Together they will perform all of their hit songs including April Sun In Cuba, Rain, Are You Old Enough and Still In Love along with Mark Williams own iconic Show no Mercy. Support artists on the show will be Suzanne Lynch (The Chicks/Lady Killers), renowned guitarist/vocalist Graham Wardrop, The Beatgirls. and Jon Palmer as Gene Pitney. Backing by Murray Wood and the ROCKONZ Hall of Fame Rockits.
