Paul Muggleston Paul Muggleston attended Christchurch Boys' High School and his first band was "The Apaches" in which he played guitar and sang. In 1961 he joined “The Dices” and played the Church dance circuit. This was followed by a stint in “The Dynamics” at the Plainsman, then Paul went to Wellington to join “The Measles” with Bruno Lawrence, Neil Harrop and Puni Solomon. He was called back to The Dynamics to join up for the successful "Searchin' - Del Shannon Tour" with "Peter and Gordon" and "Dinah Lee".
During this time “The Dynamics” became the “Secrets” made up of Paul Muggleston, Derek Wright, Wayne Allen and Gary Thain. They released one single on Allied International "It’s You" written by Paul and "You’re Wrong" written by Paul and Gary Thain. “It’s You” was nominated for the prestigious Loxene Golden Disc Awards. After this one single, “The Secrets” split up, with Paul and Gary Thain joining up with Peter Dawkins and Dave Chapman to create the band “Mee and the Others” which played at "The Pride of Place", performing with greats such as Tom Jones and “Hermans Hermits”. The group toured Europe, working in clubs in London, Scotland, Wales and Germany, including the famous PN Hit House in Munich. After leaving “Mee and the Others”, Gary Thain eventually ended up playing bass with British hard-rock band “Uriah Heep” and died of a drug overdose in March 1976 at the height of his fame. In the late sixties Paul created a new name ”Paul Baron” when recording a new single "Daddy On Your Mind" based on his own relationship with his dad. The flipside was "Don't Leave Me In My World". It was released on the Orly label in 1969. Paul returned to New Zealand in 1969 and then headed off to Australia, playing around the country for 2 years and then returning to join Radio Avon and play with “Just Us” in Christchurch until 1979. From there Paul headed to Sydney and did the Club Circuit as a solo act and working as an actor in several TV soap operas. 1986 saw Paul in Los Angeles, USA where he spent 20 years in the commercial recording business. Paul is currently living and singing in clubs in Las Vegas. |
